King Xerxes had calmed down from Vashti's refusal and the law was made. Now it was time to search for a new virgin for the King. He appointed officials in every province. The kings eunuch was to oversee and makeover the girls with beauty treatments. The girl who best pleased the king would be made queen,and replace Vashti
.Mordecai a Jew lived in the complex, he had raised his cousin Hadassah, Otherwise known as Esther. Her father and mother had dies and Mordecai adopted her. She had a beautiful face and a nice body. When the kings post was put up, many girls came up to the palace, Esther was among them. Hegai liked Esther, and took a liking to her. He started her beauty treatments and ordered her food,and assigned her 7 personal maids and put her and the maids in the best rooms in the palace.
Mordecai instructed her not to speak on her background, racial identity, and family. Mordecai passed daily to check on Esther and to see how she was doing, Each girl has a turn to enter into the King. After 12 months of preparation she was given whatever she wanted to take with her and left the harem to go to the Kings quarters. She came in the evening and left in the morning to return to the second overseer, Shaashgaz, in charge of concubines She never went back unless the king took a liking to her and asked for her by name, When it was Esther's turn, she took nothing with her but what Hegai recommended. She won the admiration of all who saw her.She was taken too king Xerxes in the palace in the 10th month in the 7th reign of the king.
The king fell in love with her, more than any of the other women or virgins. He was smitten by her and placed a crown on her head and she replaced Vashti. He gave a great banquet for the officials and the nobles. Esther's Banquet. He proclaimed a holiday for all provinces and gave out gifts. Esther kept her race and background a secret as told by Mordecai
Two of the kings eunuchs had it in for him and was plotting to kill him. Mordecai heard this and told Queen Esther. She told the king giving credit to Mordecai. Upon investigation and confirmation, the two men were put to death.
Out of all the girls and virgins there, Esther gained favor and her beauty was admired and the king fell in love with her.
