The Study of the Book of Ruth Lesson 5 Chapter 4: 7 through the end

Okay ladies, we left last week when Boaz went to the town gate to wait on the elders to discuss Naomi's land. The redeemer ahead of Boaz decided he couldn't take the land because it wold jeopardize his land. So this left Boaz able to purchase the land. So we continue.

In earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel. The kinsman redeemer ahead of Boaz told him to take the land himself and he gave him a sandal. Boaz announced to the elders and everyone present that they had witnessed that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion and Mahlon. I have also acquired Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon's widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from the town records. Today you are witnesses! They exclaimed, we are witnesses.  May the LORD make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the house of Israel. May you have standing in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem. Through the offspring the LORD gives you by this young woman, may your family be like that of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah.

The transfer was accepted, Boaz waited until everything was done decent and in order and then took Ruth as his wife. She conceived a son. The women said to Naomi: "Praise be to the LORD,who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel! He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth." Naomi took the child and cared for him. The women said, Naomi has a son, and the called him Obed, who was the father of Jessie, who was the father of David, which is the lineage of Perez. Perez was the father of Hezron, who was the father of Ram, who was the father of Amminadab, who was the father of Nahshon, who was the father of Salman, who was the father of Boaz, the father of Obed.

So ladies here we have a story about a man who leaves the promised land (Bethlehem) which is Elimelech. He leaves because the land is under God's judgement and there's a famine taking place. He takes his family to Moab, which is his wife Naomi and two sons Kilion and Mahon. The both marry pagan women and Elimelech and his sons end up dying there. Naomi finds out the famine is over and returns to Bethlehem ( means house of bread). She tells the daughters in law to go back to their mothers, Orpah goes back, Ruth wants to follow Naomi. So she does and she converts from paganism to serving God. Ruth works part time and it ends up that shes working for a kinsmen redeemer, Boaz. He shows her kindness. When she uncovers his feet and sleeps near them the next morning brings about Boaz seeking marriage with her. So we have a classic love story so to speak. That brings about
King David from the lineage of Ruth. Obed has a baby and that baby named Jessie has a baby and that baby is David. The Lord preserved the lineage line and used a pagan woman Ruth to show sovereignty and Jesus lineage.Boaz was a redeemer for Ruth and Christ is our redeemer. God is good all the time and He loves us and no matter where we are, if we cry out to Him, he is there for us.
