Study of the Book of  Ruth Lesson 1  Chapter 1 verses 1-13

In this passage of scripture Naomi and her husband left where they were  because there was a famine. After going to Moab Naomi has lost her husband and she's left with her 2 sons, Mahlon and Chilion. Her sons take wives from Moab, 1 named  Orpah, the other named Ruth. They all live there for 10 years together. The sons died, leaving the wives and their mother alone. Naomi took her 2 daughters in law back to Judah. She heard that the famine was over and God was providing for his people, giving them food. When they arrive there, Naomi tells the girls to go to their mothers and she says may the Lord show you kindness as you have to me and your dead husbands, may He bless you both with other husbands. She kissed them both and started crying . The girls wanted to go back with Naomi to her people. Naomi asked them , why would they want to go back with her, and she went on to tell them that she couldn't have more husbands for them, and that if she did, would they wait for them to grow up , and besides she was too old to even have another husband. She told them it was more bitter for her than them. The LORD'S hand was against her.

Naomi had lost her husband and her sons. For us that would be a tragedy sure enough. But Naomi was strong, the girls stayed with her and wanted to follow her back to her homeland. I'm not sure how that would work in today's times. How many of us would be able to stay with our mother in laws after losing a husband. Are people even that loving anymore?  Please comment if you have any.
