~ Lesson 1 Adorn Yourself With Godliness ~
1 Timothy Chapters 2 and 6
Our lesson will come from the book of 1 Timothy chapters 2 & 6. In our fist scripture 1 Timothy 2:9-10
1 Timothy 2:9-10
VS 9 "And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes."
VS 10 "For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do."
Here we see that Paul is speaking about the women and their attire. Women should dress modest and wear the appropriate clothing when living a life for Christ. The attention should point to Jesus and not ourselves. Anything we do should be done in the name of the Lord. It should be a difference in us and the people of the world. Living a godly life takes commitment and willingness.
Ladies, have you ever wore something and then felt very convicted about your choice and ended up changing? Yes, I have too. I also got rid of clothing that didn't say I represent Christ. I had made a commitment to God to serve Him, so I also had to make sure that everything I did lined up and pointed to Him. Living godly is a choice, you make a decision how you want to live. Adorn yourself with godliness, not the things that will attract the world and your dim your light for Jesus.
1 Timothy 6:6, 11,
VS 6 "Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth."
VS 11" But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
Verse 6 shares with us that wealth is equivalent to godliness if it's true.
Verse 11 is Paul telling Timothy that he's a man of God and to steer clear of all evil things. Purse righteousness and a godly life, with faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.
We as women tend to become leaders in a form of leading, and sometimes if the following is big, it steers off course. The same can be said for men too. Mega churches, big social media following, it's all a step in the wrong direction if we can't handle the mantle. If we live a righteous life, and do good to the point that it all is directed to the Father, then we are showing godliness is in our motivation.
Being devoted to God is a way of life. Just like a job, a relationship, or friendship. We don't want to hurt the person or mess up the thing we are devoted to right? So we are careful not to say or do the wrong things concerning the people or things we are devoted too. Paul wanted Timothy be a soldier, and to never forget what side he was on. He made sure to tell him to exercise his spirituality and not so much his physical body. So in hindsight we, are to the same. Adorn ourselves with godliness.
This concludes Lesson 1 and I hope you all enjoyed it. We will be back next week with Lesson 2 on February 13, 2025.
