Becoming A Proverbs 31 Woman: 1 Virtue At A Time Week 3 Lesson 3
Week 3 Lesson 3
Welcome back ladies. This is week 3 and we are still going strong with the book of Proverbs chapter 31.
Proverbs 31- Women working with eager hands
Proverbs 31:13 “She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.”
So far we know that the Proverbs 31 woman is a treasure to her husband, fully trustworthy, and a woman of action. In vs 13 we see a new character trait. Not only is she a woman who works hard to bring her husband good, she does her work with an outstanding attitude. She willingly works with “eager hands.”
When you get out of bed in the morning, are you eager to do your wifely/house chores? The Proverbs 31 woman has lots of energy, shes's industrious, has eagerness and diligence. Look at your hands, are they eager to get to work today? I really admire the Proverbs 31 woman’s love for God. How it overflows onto her family through her desire to serve them! That should be something we all desire and want. How do we get that eagerness?
1. Pray – pray and ask God to give you an eager attitude.
2.Do your work as unto the Lord. Col 3:23 says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
3. Change your perspective – each mundane chore you complete for your family is a labor of love. As you grocery shop, cook dinner, do the laundry and clean your home, remember that these small tasks all together equal a well nurtured home and family. Without one word your actions of eagerness speak volumes of love to your husband and children.
4. Research and find inspiration – read books or literature on how to be a better homemaker and try it out for yourself. Find a woman you know who you think has eager hands and learn from her. Ask her for tips, glean a little from her.
5. Rest – if you work all day with eager hands you will feel exhausted. Don't let your exhaustion discourage you if you feel you need to rest. If all day long you have been feeding and caring for babies and toddlers, listening, comforting, training children, teaching, plus cleaning and cooking, guess what? You will be tired. God never condemns rest. He condemns laziness. There is a time for everything. Work and rest.
Invest time in learning homemaking skills. Take some time today to pray, change your perspective, work with eager hands and then rest. Your eager hands will be a blessing to all those who enter and live in your home.
Shop to the Glory of God
Proverbs 31:14 “She is like the merchant ships bringing her food from afar.”
In vs 14 we see yet another new character trait. The serious shopper! How many of us are? In verse 14, the Proverbs 31 woman is compared to a merchant ship. What was a merchant ship? It was a ship that brought in all different kinds of cargo to the port. It would have dyes, fabrics, spices, oils, foods and pottery. The Proverbs 31 woman didn't have a refrigerator back then, so she would have had to travel to the market daily and sometimes she had to go a long way to get all of the things she needed for the day. She was willing to go the distance because she loved her family.
1.If someone was describing your style of shopping how would they describe you?
2.Are you like a merchant ship?
3.Are you willing to go to great heights to find the best, most cost effective and healthiest ingredients for your family?
4.Do you work hard at your shopping?
5.Are you more into convenience foods that are fast or are you willing to cook from scratch?
6.Do you take special care to get a good price on your goods or do you stop at the nearest corner store and just get something quick?
Let's take a moment to answer some of these questions.
Feel free to comment below.
For my answers, I am quiet a bargain shopper. I do check prices on ads, clearance items and store hop. I refuse to overspend. I also prefer to cook healthy. I do both cooking and quick meals. Only because my children are old enough to grab a quick meal on their own if I don't prepare the meal that day. By quick, I mean microwave. The same for my grandchildren. Healthy snacks as well. As little sugar as possible. I try to steer clear of fast foods. I do not cook everything from scratch but I can if I needed to. I love trying recipes. We have plenty of female cooks in the house, we all just pitch in and cook what we are good at. That's what I love about a big family. Participation.
Feeding our family fulfills a basic need. It’s necessary that we do this. Are we doing it to the glory of God? Or are we too tired to cook the family a good meal?
If we are too tired, our priorities are not in order. This is a basic need our family has to have done. Strive to excel in it! And shop to the glory of God!
